In a lecture some years ago to an international medical conference, the Revd Dr John Stott, Rector emeritus of All Souls Church, Langham Place in London, stated: "I think we have to say the religion of the Bible is a missionary religion. The evidence is overwhelming and irrefutable. Mission cannot be regarded as a regrettable lapse from tolerance and decency. Mission cannot be regarded as the hobby of a few fanatical eccentrics in the church. Mission lies at the heart of God and therefore at the very heart of the church. A church without mission is no longer a church. It is contradicting an essential part of its identity. The church is mission." (Taken from Authentic Christianity, p 315/6. IVP) Christ Church is well aware of the vital importance of Mission. We see its effects in the lives of Christians who had joined us from many different countries around the world. People who would not worship with us today had it not been for Christian witness to them in their country of origin or elsewhere. Both from our regular annual budget and special fund raising we aim to support as generously as we can our mission partner, our African teenage student and a number of prayerfully chosen organisations and societies.
